Why We’ve Upgraded Our ERP Business System

Successful businesses not only need to have the right product at the right place at the right time at the right price, and with the right people to deliver and support, but it also requires the right business systems and processes to support the entire effort.   Now that’s quite the sentence, and not sure how my high school English teacher would grade it, but it certainly supports the rationale of why Stellar Industries has taken on the monumental investment in both capital and people resources to upgrade our ERP business system.

We have experienced significant growth over the past ten years or so, thus we needed better systems horsepower to support us better in our effort to support the customer.  While business systems are often internally focused and have the habit of being restrictive, Stellar took the position that our new system had to conform to our customer first attitude and not force us to conform to a sub optimal process.  So, the big “Go Live” date was this past week, and while we have asked for our customer’s patience and understanding during the transition, we certainly won’t let it be an excuse to not continue our “Stellar” attitude towards our customers.

The Stellar Wellness Committee has partnered with Live Healthy Iowa to offer a 10 Week Wellness Challenge for our employees.

What is the 10 Week Wellness Challenge?  Over the course of 10 weeks, teams track activity minutes weekly.  This challenge provides Iowans an opportunity to improve their health while engaging in a fun, friendly competition.  Activity minutes recorded are to be a result of intentional physical activity, rather than just daily activity.  Employees will receive:

·         Weekly activity, nutrition and recipe tips

·         A personal online tracking page

·         Opportunities to win individual prizes and team incentives

As part of the Challenge, Stellar is incorporating a minimum standard of activity of 150 minutes per week for employees to gain additional prizes and incentives.  The Challenge begins Monday, January 27th.  We have 3 teams (Stellar Red, Stellar White, and Stellar Blue) participating in the fun, friendly competition where we will motivate and support each other to make healthy choices.

Marketing With Moving (And Talking) Pictures

There’s a certain beauty to the way a video communicates its message to an audience.  We, the audience, are conditioned to see the world through our five senses (touch, sight, taste, sound, & smell).  But there are two that tend to amplify our emotions, and by doing so, effect our decisions.

Let’s start with the first sense, sight.  Our powerful brain, through our eyes, takes “pictures” of whatever we’re seeing.  This happens so fast that we don’t even notice. In fact, for every second, your brain takes approximately 30 “pictures”.  Through sight, our memories are formed, and our perceptions of the world are established.  While there are always exceptions, this sense binds us together and gives us a sense of visible beauty and visions that are almost universal in relaxing us, like the serene empty beach we place as our desktop background to escape the chills of winter.

The second is sound.  As creatures who communicate verbally, the sounds we make and hear tend to mean the same no matter where we’re from, or what language we speak.  The sounds of joy lift our spirits, while anguish brings tears to our eyes.  Laughter is laughter, and crying is crying.  It’s these sounds, all around us, that remind us we’re alive.

The connection between sight and sound, however, is what makes them most powerful.  When they’re together, like Batman and Robin, they’re an unstoppable force.  Think about it for a second.  If you see only an image, your mind will undoubtedly make a connection to the sound (or noise) that the image, in your experience, should be making.  Just like the “booms” and “whooshes” we make as children playing, we unconsciously understand the sounds of the images we see.  Inversely, when we can hear, but not see, our mind draws a picture of what we’re hearing to complete our understanding of the situation.  And because of the constant stream of sights and sounds into our mind every second of every day, our emotions are conditioned to respond to these stimuli.

So what does this all mean?  Put simply, it means that video marketing is one of the most powerful tools your business possesses to reach customers and spread your message.  Not only for showing the customer what they will be buying and telling them all of the benefits of your product, but for giving them a feeling of comfort, security, and even joy in doing business with you.  By combining images and sound through video, you can pass your message right to the heart (and true decision-maker) of your customers: their emotions.

There are quite a few of aspects to SEO, from the words on your page to the way other sites link to your website. Sometimes SEO is simply a matter of making sure your site is built in a way that search engines understand it the best.

Search Engine Optimization isn’t just about “engines.” It’s about making your site easier to use and navigate for all users.

Why does my site need Search Engine Optimization?

The majority of web traffic is driven by the major search engines – Google, Bing and Yahoo. Although social media and other types of traffic can generate visits to your website, search engines are the primary method of traffic to your website.

Search engines are unique in that they provided targeted traffic – people looking for what you offer. In our case, we generally target product specific keywords for each product page. If your site cannot be found by search engines or your content cannot be put into their databases, you miss out on potential traffic that could have been driven to your site from the major search engines.
