Stellar Industries hosts TIA Advanced Earthmover Training

10.05.21

On a beautiful fall day in North Iowa, technicians from all over the country huddled together in groups performing real-world tire service exercises on earthmovers. The event was designed to teach participants proper techniques, attention to detail and problem solving when performing tire maintenance on the giant machines.

Stellar Industries hosted Tire Industry Association (TIA) Advanced Earthmover (ETS) Hands-On Training during the 3-day late-September event in Garner, Iowa. Participants received comprehensive hands-on training using Stellar Industries Tire Trucks, hydraulic tools and a variety of equipment that can aid them in servicing tires.

While running through exercises, participants utilized Stellar 1302 Mini OTR Tire Service Trucks featuring a service body, tire handling crane, tire loading liftgate and a hydraulic-driven air compressor. With the right tools to do the job, participants can focus on learning the proper techniques with the latest technology.

The Mission of TIA is to promote tire safety through training and education, to act as the principal advocate in government affairs, and to enhance the image and professionalism of the industry so that our member businesses may be more successful.

TIA’s goal is to have the students leave with comprehensive knowledge that can only come from a combination of formal and hands-on learning. Students successfully completing a final exam receive a Certificate of Completion.

Travis Glidden, Regional Sales Manager at Stellar has been a champion for hosting the hands-on training events in Garner. Since its inception six years ago, more than 300 tire service technicians from 37 different states and five countries have participated in events at Stellar. Many tire service companies continue to send their technicians because of the program’s value and impossibility to replicate. The events have also had a positive impact on the local economy when considering the lodging, meals and other funds infused into local businesses as a result of the event.

In 2021, three training events were held at the Stellar headquarters in Garner. While the schedule was scaled back from the traditional six training events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans are in place to hold a training exercise every month next year between April and September.
