Grandview Heights Enhances Collection Crew Safety with Dependable Stellar® Refuse Hoppers

As in most communities, the City of Grandview Heights, Ohio, handles trash and recycling pickup for its residents. In the past, workers had to lift each trash can, often in harsh weather, creating a safety risk as well as extra time at each stop. Those conditions improved when the City switched to Stellar® Refuse Hoppers.
“It’s changed our operations in that the guys don’t have to pick up the trash cans individually now,” explains Marcus Benson, Service Program Coordinator for the City of Grandview Heights. “The lifts on the back do that for us, so it’s helped take some of the pressure off our guys. It’s alleviated some of our workers’ comp claims, too.”

Stellar Refuse Hoppers Stand Up to Daily Use
Grandview Heights keeps its Refuse Hoppers operating throughout the day. “We do both recycling and trash,” notes Benson. “These vehicles all make a round in the morning to pick up recycling, and then they’ll come back and duplicate that exact same round in the afternoon with just trash pickup.”
The quality materials and construction allow the Refuse Hoppers to keep working in any season. “We do 90 degrees to negative 20 and 30 around here,” says Benson, “so the conditions are always varied and we have to have something that’s very dependable. The reliability of the Refuse Hoppers has been tremendous for us. They’re depended on every day.”
Flexibility Across City Programs
Benson is quick to point out how the versatility of the Refuse Hoppers serves the City well. “We have five of the Refuse Hoppers within our street program. Our parks program actually purchased one as well, and we’re looking to buy two more. One of my favorite features is the future usage. Because it’s self-enclosed and has its own hydraulic source, we can easily transfer it to another UTV if needed. So this was a huge step forward for us.”
