Serving the Community On and Off the Job: Stellar’s Acquisition Hits Close to Home
10.13.26
On September 1, 2026, Stellar announced the acquisition of Midwest Fire, a premier manufacturer that works directly alongside firefighters to design custom fire trucks. Since 1987, Midwest Fire has built its reputation on practical design, direct customer collaboration and reliable equipment built to support fire departments in the field.
The acquisition marks a major milestone in Stellar’s continued growth and ongoing commitment to diversifying its product portfolio. By bringing Midwest Fire into the fold, Stellar expands its ability to deliver innovative, work-ready trucks across key industries.
A Personal Connection for Employee-Owners
For several employee-owners, this acquisition goes far beyond their work at Stellar and directly into their roles as volunteer firefighters.
“What continues to motivate me to serve the community is knowing that I’m part of something bigger than myself,” says Derek Smuck, a six-year volunteer firefighter for the Garner, Iowa Fire Department. Smuck noted how rewarding it is to show up and help community members on what could be one of their worst days.
Travis Dodd, who has served with the Garner department for 11 years, agrees, emphasizing that he is driven by the opportunity to support friends and neighbors when they need it most. For Dodd, Smuck and more than 20 other volunteer firefighters across Stellar, this new market creates a seamless connection between their daily work and their personal dedication to public safety.
“As a Stellar employee, I’m proud to see the company grow and expand into an industry that I’m personally passionate about,” explains Smuck. “Being a firefighter has given me a firsthand understanding of the equipment, the challenges and the needs of the people who use it.”
Aligning Passion with Purpose
Community involvement and giving back are core values at Stellar. The company takes great pride in supporting employee-owners who dedicate their personal time to serving their local communities as firefighters.
Their hands-on fire service experience brings valuable real-world insight and a unique user perspective as Stellar welcomes Midwest Fire to the family. Moving forward, this acquisition bridges the gap between the team’s professional expertise and their passion for helping others.
